Today the fun in Holmfirth continues.
I have brought a WIP to the UK, which must be ready on July 3rd.
Some weeks ago a friend of mine asked me for help. Her sister will marry on July 6th and she wanted to have a shawl for her. We have had a nice evening, chatting about yarns looking on shade cards and knitting patterns she may use, because she decided she wanted to do it by herself.
Well, about 3 weeks ago she called and told me, she never ever will be ready with her knitting, because she bought the wrong colour and she is not very experienced (the bridal dress is white, but has a trimming in a different colour). She has chosen a colour that nearly matches the trimming, but after all she didn’t like it.
5 weeks for a lace shawl, ok that could be done. But, my LYS does not stock Rowan Kidsilk Haze in shade white (D***!).
So I had to order it online. 1 week later the yarn arrived. Meanwhile life has played a trick on me and my free time for knitting was virtually zero (D***!). 4 weeks to go!
The pattern I have chosen is from Jane Sowerbys book Victorian Lace Today. It is called Myrtle leaf shawl. I think it is the right pattern for a bride, especially because I’m adding golden beads for some further sparkle.
Yesterday I traveled to the UK to the Rowan headquarters to meet my fellow Rowan Ambassadors and to have a great time with the Rowan family.
So this EBS (Emergency Bridal Shawl), which is not really a travel knit, is with me in the UK and hopefully will grow a little bit. Needles crossed!
2 weeks to go!
OH my Konrad…….this shawl is gorgeous! It is so wonderful to meet you finally!
I really want to make this for my sister in law to be but have never knitted a lace pattern before, was it difficult? I’ve mainly be crocheting this last year but have knitted jumpers in the round & cabled
Hi Sharon,
knitting lace is really simple (ok, you have to know, I love knitting lace). If you know how to make a knit stitch, a purl stitch and how to k2tog and ssk and how to yo, you know how to knit lace.
The only thing you have to know is this shawl is a two sided lace. The pattern is worked on RS and WS rows.
I recommend to use a lifeline. Here is a tutorial from ‘endlessknits.com’ how to place it.
I would love to see a picture of the finished shawl.
Happy knitting,
Konrad
