A few days ago I have talked about Sarah Hatton’s designs in Rowan Cotton Lustre.

Unfortunately there is no garment for men in this collection. And I must confess I never knitted with a tape yarn. I always thought it as a yarn appropriate for female designs but not for male.

This time I wanted to give this kind of yarn a try and so I decided to create my own design.

I also wanted to include two design elements: stripes and texture.

To add some more interest in this garment (and for myself) I used Rowan Tetra Cotton and Rowan Summerlite 4ply for the contrasting colours, whereas the Cotton Lustre should give the background.

I therefore used:

Rowan Cotton Lustre in shade Daisy 372 (A)

Rowan Summerlite 4ply in shade Navy Inc 429 (B)

Rowan Tetra Cotton in shade Garda 008 (C)

The cuffs, hems and the neckline is knitted in a rib pattern in yarn A.

As the main pattern I used the following slip stitch pattern:

Row 1 (RS): Knit using A.
Row 2: Purl using A.
Row 3: *K1, sl1wyif using shade B, rep from * until last st, k1.
Row 4: Knit using B.
Row 5: as Row 1.
Row 6: as Row 2.
Row 7: K2, *sl1wyif, k1 using shade C, rep from * until last 2 sts, k2.
Row 8: Knit using C.
These 8 rows forms the pattern and are repeated throughout.

The sweater I created has a round neckline and set-in sleeves.

Some words to Rowan Cotton Lustre. I really enjoyed knitting with this beautiful soft yarn. It produces a fabric with a great drape and it is a quick and easy knit. The garment is smooth and stretchy and perfect for summer evenings.

Although they have different weights the three yarns are working great together.
