My fellow Ambassador Kristen knows how to persuade me to do this KAL. She talk about how nice it would be to knit some garments of the spring/summer collection of Rowan Yarns together. She meant especially the collections for the new yarns. But Rowan has not published one male design for Silkystones, Pure Linen and Truesilk. But Kristen really knows how to get me into this KAL, talking how I’m always complaining that I want more male knitting designs. “Just change one of the designs”, she said.
One word before we start: Although living on the west coast of the United States, Kristen really is a southern belle. And in the very last moment, she decided not to knit Pond from the Rowan brochure Silkystones, because she is so petite!
Anyway, I will take Pond a design by Marie Wallin, and modify it to fit for a man.
I have already received my Rowan Silkystones in shade Grassland from my online shop.
The next weeks Kristen and I will share the progress of knitting and modifying our chosen patterns.
Looking at the picture of Pond, how would you modify this pattern? Especially knitting it for a man?
Helo Konrad,
looking at the picture I would modify the sweater in the length, at the cutout and in the design of the sleeves.
I will be watching your competition!

I would not modify it much, but would definitely alter the neckline. It is cut too low for a man, so would move this higher up, and lengthen it as well. Maybe change slightly the design over the shoulders so that it is more solid. The color you selected is beautiful and would suit both men and women. Looking forward to the final result.
Looking forward to following both of you on your sweater progress, Konrad! I love the ‘Grassland’ colorway and I agree with the higher neckline. So exciting – good luck!
Agree with the two commentors above. I also think a more crew neck and long length is the key. I love drop shoulders on a man.
I agree with everyone about the longer length and higher crew neck. I would make the bottom ribbing (body and sleeves) a little longer and I would also knit the sweater at a tighter gauge since it seems a bit flimsy for a man’s sweater. Good luck with it!
A closer neck-line and a longer body is all it needs!
I just looked at your twitter pic and you are so fast!
