Last week I finished working on my Soumak Scarf Wrap, a design by Lisa Richardson from Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine 54.
It was the Number 1 of my Top 10 Countdown, cause of the beautiful colours of Rowan Fine Tweed (100% wool), which makes it a really versatile accessory.
It is also easy to knit. The whole wrap is knitted using slipped stitches to form the pattern, so you only have one working yarn at the same time. Clever, huh?
Lisa Richardson’s Design of this Wrap will be a classic knit for many years, I promise.
I have done a little photo shooting with this garment. I wanted to do it as close as possible to the original photos in the magazine.
Well, although I love the result of the knitted wrap, I realized, that it was not easy to model the garment. OK, I’m not a professional model and I suppose I’m about 25 years older. So what the heck!
Hello Konrad,
you are a good competitor for the young lady. Your green eyes (are they green?) match perfectly with the scarf wrap. How wonderful the colours are! Did you work with one yarn or with differnt colours?
Annegret
Thank you so much Annegret. This scarf is knitted with only one colour at one time. It looks like stranded knitting, but the pattern is formed by slipping stitches. It is easy and a advanced beginner could do it. Really.
I also noticed your beautiful green eyes! I love this and admire color work so much, but know it’s out of my knitting skills. I am going to re look at the pattern because if you say it’s easy and only have to carry one yarn at a time, maybe it’s something I can do. Anyway, difficult or easy, I’m glad you made it because it’s gorgeous.
Kristen, it is easy as a pie! Only one colour at one time. No stranded knitting only slipping stitches! Colour changes every second row, thats all.
So beautiful Konrad, it looks amazing!
Thank you so much, Claire.
HAHAHA! That last one is the VERY best. And… it’s snowing on your blog, oh no, my computer is going to get wet!
LOL!
I like your choice of colors for your scarf. I wouldn’t try to do it if it was color work as I am only a beginner knitter. I have to look up stitches up on knitting sites as I learn them.
Thank you so much Mary! This pattern looks stunning isn’t it? But it is really easy to do! If you know how to do a knit stitch, to do a purl stitch and how to slip stitches purlwise you are able to knit it! You only knit with one colour not with two! The slipped stitches are creating the look as if it was stranded knitting!
Great colour choices. Looks fab.
Thank you so much Nicky.
Hilarious Konrad. Love the idea and the knitted Soumak…fab!!
Thank you Cindi! Have a fab day and a great christmas season!
Hallo Konrad,

Konrad
Hi Konrad … so glad I stumbled across this beautiful pattern. You’ve done a great job. I’m now knitting it as a surprise for my sister’s 60th in Sept. Could you tell me how you deal with the yarn tails please? Do you knit them in as you go, or weave them up the side when you’ve finished?
Fabulous pics … made me smile.
Cheers, Rachel
Hi Rachel, I weaved them in after I finished the knitting part. You have a lucky sister, she will be pleased.
I love this wrap so much it is colourful, warm and soft at the same time. Have a nice day, Konrad
