Denmark Street, also known as Tin Pan Alley, is famed for its musical connections. Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols and many others lived or recorded tracks down this short street. To this day, it’s lined with guitar shops, small venues and other musical distractions.

Rowan Yarns has done the photo shooting for their brochure Alpaca Colour at Denmark Place, London UK, featuring the new Rowan yarn Alpaca Colour (Alpaca 100%). Alpaca Colour is soft DK yarn, with a subtle blend of colours in each of the 10 shades. All 17 patterns in the brochure are designed by Lisa Richardson.

Historically from Compton Wynyates in Warwickshire, the family have owned Castle Ashby since the 1500s although Castle Ashby House has recently been passed to Earl Compton, the son of the 7th Marquess, to continue the family tradition of managing the Castle Ashby Estate.

Compton Estates

In 1512 William Compton purchased Castle Ashby from Sir John Hussey who six years previously had bought the estate from Richard, 3rd Earl of Kent. In 1574 his grandson, Henry Lord Compton pulled down the medieval Castle and started the present building. The house was originally built as an ‘E’ shape to celebrate the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1 but in 1635 the front façade was added by Inigo Jones, thus creating the courtyard.
