Thornton by Martin Storey

In my last post I talked about the Rowan Aran family and the differences between the three aran-weight yarns, which are knitting to the same gauge and are therefore interchangeable.

Martin Storey has designed 13 designs for two of these yarns: the new Rowan Super Fine Merino Aran and the hand-painted Rowan Fine Art Aran. These designs for both men and women are published in the brochure Easy Aran Knits.

The design Thornton is a raglan sweater with a roll back collar and shown here in the stunning shade 006 Rouge. I immediately knew that I will knit that sweater after I got the brochure. First it is a basic garment every man need to have in his wardrobe. Second the roll back collar and third the colour.

Thinking of this, I remembered I have some Fine Art Aran in shade sitting in my stash, waiting for a project. And because both yarns are interchangeable and this design is for every day wear, I decided to knit it twice.

While waiting for the Super Fine Merino Aran to come to my place, I knitted the design in Fine Art Aran in shade 550 Fandango. I have to go down a needle size as so often and used 4mm (US 6) needles.

Then I knitted it in Super Fine Merino Aran and I used the same shade Rouge as in the brochure. This time I have to use the recommended 4,5mm (US 7) to achieve gauge.
